Can a nursing student apply to another nursing program after failing out of one?

Question:

My daughter failed two classes during her junior year by 0.1 of a point and was told she no longer can be in the nursing program. She is devastated. What can she do? Can she apply to another institution?

Jean

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Jean,

That is unfortunate. Is it possible to challenge the decision? If not, she certainly can apply to other institutions. Because of this experience, you/she might want to look into getting some academic support such as a tutor to help her succeed the second time around.

Your daughter also might benefit from reading the book “How to Survive & Maybe Even Love Nursing School” by Kelli S. Dunham.

Here are links to articles she also might find helpful: www.nsna.org/Portals/0/Skins/NSNA/pdf/Imprint_SeptOct04_ACarePlan.pdf and www.DCardillo.com/articles/success-students.html.

Persistence and determination always win out in the end.

Best wishes to you both,
Donna
