Sound Shore Medical Centers Department of Nursing hosted a day of education in November featuring nurse practitioners research along with research projects from students at the Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing.
At the New Rochelle, N.Y., facility, education is the cornerstone of the department of nursing. Continuing education ensures staff is current on cutting-edge practices and advancements in equipment and technology. This latest in a series of educational opportunities provided NPs an opportunity to share their advanced knowledge and best practices with others. From oncology to bariatric presentations, more than 100 individuals acquired information on 10 specialty practices.
The learning stations showcased research gleaned from Sound Shores nine NPs. In addition, the educational event provided a stage for Hopfer students research and access to representatives from AMGEN, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi-Aventis, who provided information on their newest offerings in patient care.
The following NPs presented research topics: Palliative Extubation by Rose Anne Indelicato, RN, MSN, ANP-BC, ACHPN, OCN; Prevention of Recidivism for Admission of CHF by Louise Varca, RN, MSN, FNP-BC; Outpatient Management of Adult Diabetes by Maryanne Prior, RN, MSN, FNP; Anticoagulation in Total Joint Patients by Maria Rivera, RN, MSN, ANP; Obesity and CKD by nurses Peggy Coll, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, Margie Katt, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, surgical NP, and Roberta Wright, RN, MSN, FNP-BC; Pediatric Asthma by Janice Bistritz, RN, MSN, CPNP; and Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy by Denise Byrd, RN, MSN, NP-BC, AOCNP.
