Med/Surg Conference Turnout Exceeds Expectations

Dedicated to staying on top of rapid-fire changes in healthcare reform and nursing practice, more than 1,000 med/surg nurses and healthcare providers attended the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Annual Convention on Oct. 20-25 in Las Vegas.

“I was so impressed by everyone’s enthusiasm to enhance their personal and professional development, which ultimately improves patient care,” said AMSN President Sandra Fights, RN, MS, CMSRN, CNE. “It’s not always easy to get to a convention, but nurses are so focused on being extraordinary providers that they make the effort, and this year the numbers exceeded our expectations.”

The meeting featured the leading speakers in the med/surg nursing specialty and beyond. Sessions included clinical and research topics, as well as courses on leadership, mentoring and the impact of the new healthcare reforms.

In addition to attending sessions and earning continuing education credits, the participants connected at special events with colleagues who share their passion and commitment, viewed innovative poster presentations and visited with vendors in a packed exhibit hall.

AMSN’s 20th annual convention will be Sept. 8-12, 2011, in Boston. To learn more about the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and view a photo gallery from the event, visit
