The Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes held its annual conference June 23-24 in San Francisco while celebrating the coalitions 15th anniversary. CALNOC has grown from a small number of hospitals in California to encompass hospitals in 12 states and three foreign countries and is transitioning to an independent nonprofit corporation.
It has established itself as one of the nations first nursing-sensitive benchmarking registries and is in the process of achieving Patient Safety Organization status.Nancy Donaldson, RN
Speakers at the conference, titled The Global Reach of Nursing Quality, covered topics such as medication administration accuracy (Nancy Donaldson, RN, DNSc, FAAN, clinical professor and director, Center for Research & Innovation in Patient Care, School of Nursing, UCSF), and regional and international benchmarking, (Carol Bradley, RN, MSN, CENP, senior vice president and CNO, Legacy Health System, Portland, Ore.; Lena Gunningberg, RN, PhD, associate professor, Uppsala University, Department of Public Health & Caring Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden).
Trends in regional variation over the 15 years of data collection also were shared with attendees, with the ultimate conference goal of advancing patient care excellence.
