Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center celebrated its second annual national Certified Nurses Day March 19 to recognize its 630 certified nurses. The Professional Practice Councils Certification Committee hosted a 12-hour event at the Palm Court.
Professional Certification Committee members include Leonora Hernandez, RN, CNN; Saramma Matthew, RN, CNN; Elizabeth Vaccarino, RN, CPEN; Dianne Aroh, RN, MS, NEA-BC, executive vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer; Sandra Weber, RN, CCRN, CWCN, committee chairwoman; Linda Wolfson, RN, CNN, president of Region 2 Bergen/Hudson counties of the New Jersey State Nurses Association; Johanna Yohannes RN,C; Linda Parry-Carney, RN, MA, BC; Barbara Zanetto, RN, CNOR; and Judy Urgo, RNC,OB.
Posters were displayed by all of the specialty areas listing each unit or departments certified nurses. Attendees flipped through information on obtaining certification and Aroh spoke, encouraging nurses to obtain certification. Aroh also congratulated nurses who have achieved certification.
Last year, certified nurses were given a Committed to Excellence pin. This year, certified nurses were presented with a ribbon and complimentary meal ticket.
The more than 100 nurses who attended were asked to sign the guest book and share their feedback from the day. In the evening, some committee members did walking rounds on the units to congratulate and encourage certification.
Since HUMC began celebrating certified nurses last year, certification has increased.
