I work in a military hospital but would like to do more administrative or medical sales. How can I contact a recruiter who I can trust to give me the correct advice I need to take my care in a different direction?
Dear Donna replies:
The best way to find a professional recruiter who specializes in the type of work you’re interested in doing is to get a recommendation from those already working in the specialty. For example, when you encounter someone working in medical sales, ask him or her who the good recruiters are in this field. If you don’t encounter these people, talk to some physicians or others who do come in contact with them and ask this person to connect you with them so you can get the info/recommendations you need. You’ll find a partial listing at http://www.aone.org/aone/edandcareer/esfdirectory.html.
Keep in mind that a professional recruiter is different than a career coach. So, if you need help exploring where to go from here, you might want to start with an RN career coach. Get a recommendation from your state nurses association (whether or not you are a member) or by asking around.
I also recommend that you read “The ULTIMATE Career Guide for Nurses” (www.nurse.com/ce/7250). In the book I talk extensively about finding and working with the right recruiter or coach and figuring out where to go from here and how to get there.
Best wishes, Donna
