Main Line Shines at Nightingale Event

Nurses from Main Line Health System had not been honored at the annual Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania in the event’s first 19 years.

On Oct. 16, during the 20th annual gala in Camp Hill, Pa., two Main Line nurses were among seven honored at the statewide event.

Irene O’Brien, RN, an ICU nurse at Paoli (Pa.) Hospital, was named the Patient Choice Award winner, and Robin G. Sheeran, RN, of Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in Malvern, Pa., was the Clinical Practice RN category winner.

More than 135 nominations were received for the event, which took place at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center.

The Patient Choice Award is unique since the winner is determined through nominations from the family of a patient.

“I am humbled by this award, particularly because it is recognition from a patient’s family for something that I have made my life’s work,” O’Brien said.

The Nursing Research honor was awarded to Beth Ann Swan, CRNP, PhD, who serves as professor and senior associate dean, academic affairs at Thomas Jefferson University’s Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia.

Nancy L. Rothman, RN, EdD, was the winner in the Nursing Administration category. Rothman serves as the Independence Foundation professor of urban community nursing and director of community-based practices at Temple University’s College of Health Professions, Philadelphia.
