Texas Tech Nurses Shine

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing’s Alyce Ashcraft, RN, PhD, CS, was selected as the associate professor for the Roberts Endowed Practiceship in Gerontological Nursing, according to a news release. Ashcraft’s commitment to research in aging has been demonstrated by multiple funded grants for improvement of outcomes in nursing home and long-term care. She has been honored as an outstanding faculty member, received the TTUHSC Young Investigator Award, and was selected as a National Institute of Health/National Institute of Aging Summer Institute Fellow. Ashcraft also has numerous publications in both national and international journals in the area of improving the nursing care for the elderly in long-term care settings.

Barbara Cherry, RN

Barbara Cherry, RN, DNSc, MBA, was recently appointed to the Mildred and Shirley L. Garrison Professorship in Geriatric Nursing. Cherry has built a strong foundation to support this role by forming local research partnerships focused on geriatrics and developing national networks and submitting grant proposals — both locally and nationally — for promotion of healthy aging in West Texas. Cherry helped establish funding for the Perry School of Nursing’s Senior House Calls program and has completed research on the use of technology and electronic health records in nursing homes.
