Nine students completed the Bi-State Certified Nurse-Midwife program at the University of Kansas School of Nursing in Kansas City.
They are Leslie Arnold, RN, Topeka, Kan.; Kim Blassingame, RN, Topeka, Kan.; Michaela Galimba, RN, Olathe, Kan.; Heather Harper, RN, Olathe, Kan.; Kara Higgins, RN, Basehor, Kan.; Rachel Israel, RN, Prairie Village, Kan.; Sheila Toon, RN, Larned, Kan.; Katie Willey, RN, Kansas City, Mo.; and Amanda Winrow, RN, Rushford, Minn.
The class of 2009 cared for more than 7,222 women in routine prenatal, gynecologic, family planning or primary care encounters; managed the labor of more than 400 mothers; and attended the births of more than 387 babies, according to a news release.2009 Red Hat Award recipient Sheila Toon is congratulated by Ginger Breedlove (left) and 2007 winner Melissa Curtice.
Two student awards also were presented. Toon received the 2009 Red Hat Award. The second award presented, the Dr. Ginger Breedlove Award, was given to Higgins.
