After finishing an RN refresher course, should I be able to get a job if most employers require a minimum of one year of acute care experience?

Question:

Dear Donna,

After finishing an RN refresher course, should I be able to get a job if most employers require a minimum of one year of acute care experience?

Susan

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Susan,

I presume you have prior experience in nursing and took the refresher course because of an absence from the bedside. Employers who are looking for a minimum of one year of experience usually don’t want a new graduate. If you are an experienced nurse who recently has taken a refresher course, you should be good to go. Employers vary in their hiring practices and requirements, so be sure to contact any and all in your area. Read “Re-entering the Workforce” at www.dcardillo.com/articles/reenterwork.html.

Best wishes,
Donna
