Lenox Hill, NYU School of Nursing Collaborate to Mentor Grad Students

NEW YORK CITY — On July 10, Eloise Cathcart, RN, MSN, assistant professor and coordinator for the graduate program in nursing administration at NYU School of Nursing, met with nurse managers at Lenox Hill Hospital to discuss a collaborative program in which 17 NYU graduate students would be mentored by nurse managers for one semester.

“We want students to fully learn the nurse manager or director role,” says Cathcart, who will be responsible for developing the practicum for each of the selected students and will help them identify their learning objectives.

The program is set to begin during the fall semester.

Lenox Hill nurse managers Paulina Flores, RN, left, and Carmela Colpa-Lewis, RN, participated in the meeting with Cathcart.

“We’re really excited,” says Connie Cowley, RN, MN, CPHQ, director of nursing practice in the department of nursing at Lenox Hill, who will work with Cathcart to get the program going.

“This is the first time a school has asked Lenox Hill to be part of something like this,” says Geraldine Varrassi, RN, EdD, nursing education specialist at Lenox Hill. “But it’s just one of the many exciting things that are going on here.”
