Do you have to have a BSN to be a DON of an Illinois health department?

Question:

Dear Donna,

I have been told that a BSN is required per state law to be a DON of an Illinois health department. I have tried to find job qualification in the IDPH guidelines, but I cannot find this information. Would you be able to give me some direction or tell me somewhere else to find this information?

Will

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Will,

I would suggest that you contact the Illinois Chapter of the American Public Health Association at http://www.ipha.com for this information. Sometimes you have to talk to a few people to get to the right person to answer your questions. APHA has a public health nurse section, so try to find someone affiliated with that.

Best wishes,
Donna
