Laurel, Prince George’s Nurses Help State Legislators

Nearly two dozen nurses took part in the event in Annapolis.

Nearly two dozen nurses and allied health professionals from Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital and Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md., took part in a health screening day for state legislators on Feb. 17 in Annapolis.

The second annual Sen. Gwendolyn Britt Legislators’ Health Screening event included nurses offering blood pressure and lung function screenings, podiatry assessments for foot problems, flu shots, nutritional and diet assessments, and other health information.

The Laurel Regional Hospital pathology team performed cholesterol screenings, while the diabetes center provided body mass index and body fat analysis screening. The event was open to all legislators and their staff members.

Nursing leaders from both hospitals, which are members of Dimensions Healthcare System, also took part in the event, along with several directors of staff.

The event began last year in honor of the late Britt, a member of the Maryland State Senate who died Jan. 12, 2008, of health-related issues at age 66.
