Decker Elected to National Healthcare Simulation Board

Sharon Decker, RN, PhD, professor and director of Clinical Simulations and the Covenant Health System Endowed Chair in Simulation and Nursing Education at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing, was recently elected as an at-large board member of the Society for Simulation in Health Care.

The society is an international organization of healthcare providers (including physicians, pharmacists, and nurses), educators, engineers, and scientists formed in 2004 to advance the interests of a growing simulation community.

The membership, now more than 2,000, works to improve performance and reduce errors in patient care using all types of simulation including task trainers, human patient simulators, virtual reality, and standardized patients.

“We are proud to have Dr. Decker gain such national recognition,” said Alexia Green, PhD, RN, dean of the Perry School of Nursing. “As well, this allows the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to assure we are on the cutting edge of simulation in healthcare education.”

The F. Marie Hall SimLife Center, expected to be complete in May 2010, will provide students from TTUHSC and other healthcare professionals with a state-of-the art, interdisciplinary simulation center.
