Daily News: AAAHC to Offer Accreditation to APRN Organizations

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care has announced it will make ambulatory organizations run by advanced practice RNs eligible for its accreditation surveys. The change, which will begin with the AAAHC’s 2009 standards, will take place in states where such providers can practice independent of physician supervision, according to an association news release.

The change was made in response to “the growing number of rural clinics, college health centers, and other organizations … supervised by advanced practice nurses,” said Roy C. Grekin, MD, AAAHC medical director. “This enables these organizations to undergo on-site surveys and earn AAAHC accreditation as a mark of the quality of care they offer these patients.”
