Hospice of the East Bay Celebrates Lives of Children

Hospice of the East Bay commemorated the lives of children Dec. 14 with lights on a centuries-old oak tree.

The Tree of Lights ceremony, the last of 15 to take place in Contra Costa County in November and December, was dedicated to the children who had been served by the facility’s pediatric hospice and palliative care program, Comfort for Kids. Each light on the tree represented the life of a child.

The ceremony, which took place at Oak Alley behind Va de Vi Bistro & Wine Bar in Walnut Creek, featured speakers from families whose children had received services from Comfort for Kids. Walnut Creek Mayor Gary Skrel also greeted attendees, while the Murwood Elementary School Chorus performed songs and radio station sponsor 92.1 KKDV gave out candy canes.
