Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Md., will host a community open house from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, to show off the latest phase of its $117 million expansion.
Local residents will be able to tour BWMC’s new 111-bed patient care building, which officially opens Monday, Jan. 12.
The event will include free health screenings, refreshments, and giveaways, including two free tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies in the United States.The lobby at BWMC’s 224,000-square-foot building.
The new building, which measures 224,000 square feet, features seven finished floors and two shell floors for future expansion.
The building essentially doubles the size of BWMC and will help meet the area’s growing demand for health care services, according to BWMC president and CEO Karen E. Olscamp.
“The building is the new face of the medical center,” says Olscamp. “When you walk in the doors, you will immediately see how we are incorporating the new look with a new standard of care for our community.”Visitors will be able to check out the concourses on patient care floors during the open house.
Among the building’s features are a glass-lined lobby with pedestrian access from the parking garage; 111 private rooms with wireless Internet access, shower stalls, and a sleep chair or couch; a 24-bed critical-care unit; larger areas for The Sleep Center, The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and the Outpatient Infusion Center; and four medical-surgical units that will serve a variety of specialties.
This fall, the building also will house BWMC’s new labor and delivery unit.
