Chicago Nurses Climb Career Ladder

Many nurses at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago have achieved career advancements.

The following RNs achieved neonatal ICU certification: Sue Ragonese, RNC, BSN; Minelva Gallardo, RNC, BSN; Maureen Trybula, RNC, BSN; Georgie Perry, RNC, BSN; Deb Bafia, RNC, BSN; and Kristen DeMonte, RNC, BSN.

Kim Miller, RN, was promoted to manager of the neuro ortho spine unit. Miller has worked at the hospital since 1998 in the neuroscience unit and served as the unit’s interim manager. As a member of Sigma Theta Tau, she also is enrolled at Lewis University for her master’s in Nursing Administration and Leadership.

Nurses at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago also have reason to celebrate.

The following RNs were awarded 2008 Excellence in Nursing Awards in memory of Karen Gousman: Beth Elpayaa, Julie Carbray, Elise Sahly, Vanessa Howard, and Maria Gallegos.

Dee Fontana, RN

Edna Hill, RN, and Emmanuel Olaifa, RN, were certified as recovery support specialists by the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association.

Joycelyn Mallard, RN, presented a poster on pediatric pain at the annual Pediatric Nursing Conference in Las Vegas. Beth Elpayaa and Anamay Esleta achieved CCRN certification. Agnes Serdena, RN, was promoted to administrative nurse.

Dee Fontana, RN, MSN, ACNP-BC, was promoted to nurse manager in the ED. She also will continue to practice in her NP role in the ED.

Larry Turner, RN, received a Doctorate of Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.
