How do I gain OR skills so I can obtain CNOR certification?

Question:

Dear Donna,

I am looking to expand my skills to CNOR specialty. I have 20 plus years of experience, but none of it is in the OR. Can you suggest a training or preceptor program to gain these skills?

Maureen

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Maureen,

Your best source of education and information about anything related to the OR is the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses . Contact the officers of your state chapter and ask for local programs and resources. Do an informational interview with these folks. You should even get out to local AORN meetings as a guest. When there’s something you want to do, it makes sense to rub elbows with those already doing that thing. Best wishes,
Donna
