Jersey City Medical Center Achieves Magnet

Jersey City Medical Center, part of LibertyHealth System, Inc., in Jersey City, N.J., has received the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.

The center is the only hospital in its region, which includes Hudson, Essex, and Union counties, to achieve this distinction, and it is the first time Jersey City has achieved this award.

Magnet status for the medical center means that Jersey City’s nursing team has demonstrated a strong commitment to patients and that its nursing programs meet the highest standards of nursing practice in the country. Rita Smith, RN, DNP, senior vice president of Patient Care Services, says, “Our nursing team believed in what we had accomplished as a quality organization and began seeking the Magnet Award more than four years ago.”

The designation must be reapplied for every four years.
