New Hampshire ED Nurse Runs for State Representative

Jeff Ballard, RN, EMT-P (D-East Wakefield) is running for state representative to the New Hampshire General Court to represent Brookfield, Wakefield, and Effingham, N.H.

“I have served as a public servant for many years as a healthcare provider, volunteer firefighter/paramedic,n and a member of the New Hampshire Army National Guard,” Ballard says in an e-mail. “I know what it is like to be a leader and take action to solve complicated problems.”

Many nurses are unaware of the Legislature’s influence on nursing, Ballard writes. In New Hampshire, the Legislature has to vote on the Nurse Practice Act before it can be approved. Although this is an important role, Ballard says, often many people with no nursing experience are left to approve how nurses practice in New Hampshire.

Ballard is an ED nurse at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., a graduate of the first RN class of the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Nashua, N.H., a former member of the New Hampshire Army National Guard, and one of two paramedics on the Wakefield Fire and Rescue Department.
