Whittier, Calif. — An appreciation breakfast, a professional development day, and the delivery of gifts to each nursing unit were all part of Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital’s National Nurses Week festivities. But perhaps the highlight was the awarding of scholarships to nursing staff.
The PIH Foundation awarded 26 staff nurses $5,000 each to continue their education, whether it be by obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing or completing their RN training. The scholarship funds are raised each fall at the PIH Foundation Golf Tournament.
Nurses also received special awards such as the Flo Scott Rose Award for Nursing Leadership, given in memory of a former patient, donor, and friend of the hospital who wanted to show her appreciation for the nursing care. Her husband, Frank Scott, chair of the PIH Foundation, established the scholarship in her honor to help nurses enhance their education.
National Nurses Week is held each year from May 6-12.Flo Scott Rose Award recipients (from left) Karen Profeta (2007) and Debbie Golub (2004), Foundation Chair Frank Scott, and recipients Michele Grams (2008), Teri Pazzulla (2006), and Jeanette Wehrberg (2005)
