, assistant professor of Nursing and director of the Transcultural Nursing Institute, Kean University, presented “The Cultural Context of Postpartum Depression Among Latina” at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s Annual Nursing Research Day Program, “Hot Topics in Maternal — Child Nursing.” Hascup also spoke about her current program of research: “Exploring the Cultural Experiences, Practices, Beliefs, and Expressions of Mexican—American Women During the Postpartum Period.”

, VP of Patient Care Services at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., was accepted to the 2008 Johnson & Johnson — Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives. Fitzsimmons was one of 40 nursing executives selected from around the world.

RNs Are Nominated for Governor’s Merit
Four nurses from Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., were nominated to receive the 2008 Governor’s Nursing Merit Award for having demonstrated excellence in nursing and for making vital contributions to the nursing profession in N.J. They have been nominated in the following categories: Jayanthi Prabhu — acute care; Grace Frane — nurse educator; Bernadette Rotea — nurse manager; and Maureen Fitzsimmons — nurse administrator.

Valley Hospital Adds Nurse Navigator
Ann Rhodes
, a certified family NP, has been hired as a nurse navigator to help coordinate efficient, cost — effective services for patients seeking breast care at Valley Hospital’s Breast Center, in Ridgewood, N.J. The new position is called coordinator of disease management teams. Rhodes also works with patients at Valley’s Prostate Cancer Center.

Bonning, JFK Medical Center — Registered Professional Nurse: Manager, Non-acute Care; Susan S. Spinner, Virtua Children’s Program of Excellence — Nurse Researcher: Proficient; Christine M. Arroliga, FitSmart at Virtua Health — Registered Professional Nurse: Community Health; Phyllis Begyn, Ocean Medical Center — Registered Professional Nurse: Manager, Acute Care; Rebecca Deleon Graboso, Riverview Medical Center — Advanced Practice Nurse.

Blythedale Honors Nurses
Three nurses at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y., received special awards for extraordinary service: Pat Nyarady, certified pediatric nurse – Excellence in Nursing Award; Shaimole Francis, staff nurse – Rising Star Award; and Kathy Hodge, staff nurse – ABCD Award (Above and Beyond the Call of Duty).

VNA Nurse Among Top 50
Dorita Taylor
, an RN from the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley, is among the “Top 50” nurses in the Hudson Valley to receive an “Excellence in Nursing” award from Hudson Valley Magazine.

Nurse Receives Somerset’s Top Honor

, pediatric nurse, Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, N.J., has received the 2008 Jean Dougherty Award, the medical center’s top nursing honor. Named in honor of the center’s late nurse supervisor, the award recognizes nursing leadership and dedication to nursing. Nurse of the Year Awards were presented to Karen Ricigliano — Perioperative Services; Julie Michalak — Maternal & Child Health; Marites Ventus — Critical Care; Denise Morio — Medical/Surgical; and Maryann DeStefano — Case Management. The Manager of the Year Award was presented to Jennifer Irving; and Natasa Livelli received the Nurse Yearling Award.
