Nighttime is Right Time for Nurse Mentors

Two new nursing mentors at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) in Towson, Md., have taken a fresh approach to their schedules.

In an effort to recruit and retain nursing graduates, Jennifer Spahn, RN, BSN, and Kathy Wolfe, RN, BSN, will work 12-hour night shifts in clinical areas throughout the hospital.

Since many new graduates work night shifts, Spahn and Wolfe are offering ongoing mentoring support and guidance for GBMC’s newest nurses during those hours on a full-time basis as well.

The mentors also will be partners with education specialists from GBMC’s Center for Nursing Excellence to promote unit-based competencies and continuing education opportunities.

Rosemerry Tasin, RN

GBMC also has hired Rosemerry Tasin, RN, MSN, as a full-time school affiliate liaison to coordinate clinical placements for students.

She will act as a liaison between GBMC and nursing school affiliates, coordinate the nursing extern program, and promote professional growth initiatives for all staff members.
