Hackensack, N.J. Hackensack University Medical Center has a fleet of mobile trauma units designed for a large-scale emergency, reports the Hackensack Record.
Three units are mounted on flatbed trucks for ease of navigation through city streets. One unit holds a seven-bed ICU, the second is biological, and the third has a communications center. The units will be accompanied by two smaller support vehicles, a communications van, and a vehicle that can test for biological agents.
A mobile OR will be added for use in disaster zones, along with pharmacy and decontamination units. A Disaster Institute will be designed to train hospital staff and emergency personnel in disaster response.
