Alcoholics Tempted by Hand Wipes

British researchers found that alcohol hand wipes, sanitary wipes, and especially liquids could pose a hazard to alcoholics.

Two-thirds of poisonings involving these products results from intentional ingestion.

The study, which was published in the British Medical Journal, reported that cases of intentional and unintentional adult ingestion of alcohol hand cleaners rose 314% between the time when only hand wipes were available and when liquid alcohol hand rubs became widely available.

All of the cases involved ingestion in hospitals or nursing homes.
