North Carolina nurse named fellow of gerontological society
Laurie Kennedy-Malone, GNP-BC, PhD, FAANP, a professor of nursing at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been named a fellow by the Gerontological Society of America. GSA fellowship — the highest class of membership — was awarded to Kennedy-Malone for her "outstanding and continuing work" in the field of gerontology, according to a news release. Read more »
Pedal to the metal
Many Southern states mobilized quickly last year in order to begin the process of meeting the goals outlined in the Institute of Medicine’s and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s report “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.” The effort will entail years of work, until 2020 and perhaps beyond, to meet all eight of the recommendations. Raised gloves raise awareness
Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C., was awarded first place in the Pink Glove Dance video nationwide competition, sponsored by Medline Industries Inc., Lexington’s dance benefitted the Vera Bradley Foundation, which helps increase breast cancer awareness. Read more »
Beacon Award winners announced in the fall
Southeast facilities made the cut and were given Beacon Awards for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses in the fall. The award lauds U.S.-based hospital units that employ evidence-based practices to improve patient and family outcomes. Read more »
