POSITION SUMMARY:
Scope of Practice: The Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) provides comprehensive health care services to a defined patient population. An APRN obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and staff education. Each APRN demonstrates professional leadership and actively participates in quality / outcomes improvement activities, clinical research, and organizational development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Practice: provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing care based on the physiological, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement.
· Identifies the physiological, psychosocial, safety, developmental, and educational needs of patients.
· Prescribes and performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures as appropriate for the setting.
· Utilizes technologies to effectively provide high quality patient care.
· Clearly communicates the plan of care to patients and families, facilitating communication with the interdisciplinary team.
· Evaluates and documents diagnostic findings and the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes.
· Utilizes principles of teaching and learning to meet the educational needs of patients and families.
· Provides patients and families with professional and community resource information, making referrals as needed.
· Is available for 24/7 on call issues from the nursing staff. Rotates call with other APRN and Pediatrician.
· Consults with Pediatrician on complex issues/problems
· Completes history and physicals within 24hrs.
· Complies with medical staff bylaws as they pertain to advanced practice nursing and care of patients including documentation legibility, medical record completion and order verifications.

· Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports the effectiveness of intra-professional nursing relationships.
· Assists in building the inter-disciplinary team to provide optimum care by teaching, coaching, and mentoring others.
· Disseminates knowledge internally and externally, utilizing innovative teaching strategies to share clinical practice expertise through case conferences, simulations, oral and poster presentations, and publications.
· Recognizes opportunities to improve care safety, quality, and efficiency and acts as a change agent to support improvement initiatives, based on evidence based practices.
· Maintains membership in at least one professional organization and actively participates on key practice issues.
Research/Practice Inquiry: improves patient/family outcomes by utilizing research to translate science to evidence based care and program development.
· Synthesize and evaluate scientific evidence to develop best practices for standards of care.
· Develops, implements, and evaluates quality indicators to measure patient and system outcomes.
· Evaluates and participates in the selection of new technologies to advance patient care.
· Collaborates with the inter-disciplinary team in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research.
· Creates, researches, and analyzes data not readily available for complex decisions having direct impact on department operations and/or patient care and may have direct impact on hospital operations.
Organizational Development: influences organizational and health care policy in order to effect and sustain practice improvements.
· Attends department meetings, assigned committees, and educational programs.
· Collaborates with inter-disciplinary teams to translate best practices into organizational policy and procedure.
· Influences health care policies and systems for clinically relevant issues.
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
· Master degree
· 3 years experience in pediatrics or specialty preferred
· Experience in clinical specialty area or in pediatric nursing.
· Educational and work experience requirements are necessary to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) as defined by regulating and accrediting agencies and to effectively accomplish role responsibility.

Required Credentials/Licensure: (e.g. prof., state, city)
- Current license to practice in Illinois as a registered professional nurse.
- Current Nurse Practitioner certification
· Current Documentation of Recognition from the Illinois State Boards of Nursing that recognizes the individual as able to title, designate, represent, and practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
· Speciality Nursing Certification

under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
