Job Description: 

RN Staff Nurse


Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse. The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer. 


Assess for and placement of venous access devices in patients; devices include peripheral venous catheters, implanted ports, PICC and Midline catheters. Assesses and manages central venous access devices including routine dressing changes and cap change. Serves as a resource for the health care team in the intravenous access, placement, management, and patient/family education for care and maintenance. Service area is both inpatient and outpatient.


The expectation of this job is to be available and flexible to travel to various sites throughout Legacy Health System and provide patient care. 

Job Qualifications: 

Education:As required by licensure. BSN preferred. 

Experience:One year registered nursing experience or completion of Legacy Health Nurse Residency program.

Thorough knowledge of care and skill in placement of peripheral IV catheters; thorough knowledge of care of central IV access devices, PICC certification within 9 months of hire. Clinic team has additional requirement of chemotherapy certification at designated sites within 12 months of hire (MPH/MHMC/LSC). Pediatric IV team has additional orientation for pediatric peripheral and central IV care.


Licensure:Both Oregon and Washington state RN licensure required. American Heart Association BLS - CPR certification required.  

Knowledge/Skills:Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
