Job Duties

The Administrative Nurse II is responsible for assisting with clinical management and administrative coordination of the unit. The position is a combination of clinical (direct care) and administrative responsibilities. Under the direction of the AN IV, the Administrative Nurse II, is responsible for the consistent implementation and monitoring of organizational policies and standards within the unit. The AN II effectively prioritizes the daily flow of the peri-operative units; conveys priority status when assigning duties, and effectively handles competing priorities. Major functions include coordinating and directing peri-operative patient care with the Charge Nurses for the Pre-operative, OR, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology & Interventional procedural rooms, Post anesthesia and extended anesthesia care areas. Perform clinical rounds on a routine basis to continuously monitor status of the surgery schedule, staffing, and clinical practice. Identify recurring problems within a specific patient population to evaluate standards and establish innovative approaches to patient care. The AN II is responsible for knowledge and application of all personnel policies and requirements of the collective bargaining agreements. The AN II will assist the AN IV, in promoting the accomplishment of the goals and objectives of the unit. The AN II will participate in the peer evaluation process. The ANII will also participate in the interviewing and hiring process for the unit staff when requested. The AN II participates in scheduling staff as well as ongoing clinical support and supervision. The AN II is responsible for monitoring specialty area operations to identify and report problems associated with staff performance, resource issues, and patient care issues to the AN IV. The AN II is responsible for decision-making within the established annual unit budget and for making recommendations and decisions, which promote the cost effective allocation of resources. The AN II will present new treatment modalities and/or information to the nursing staff as directed and will collaborate with the AN IV regarding Education, to identify educational needs and learning situations for nursing staff; complete performance evaluations on orienting nursing team members and nursing staff; assist with the interviewing of prospective team members; identify own professional development needs and seek appropriate resources to meet them.

Job Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and current RN license for the state of California. Ability to clearly read, write and speak English. Skill in communicating and conducting self appropriately and professionally. In-depth knowledge and skill related to the specialty area; patient care requirements, etc. Ability to work within the guidelines established by the organizational structure. Ability to work effectively and efficiently orient/cross-train nursing staff. Working/reference knowledge of Medical Center and Department policies, procedures and standards. Skill in accurately assessing and communicating special patient care and operational needs. Skill in demonstrating sincere support for the Medical Center, Department and Operating Room Services Staff. Skill in assessing and constructively communicating staff development needs. Ability to document staff performance and maintain confidential records. Knowledge of age-specific physiological and psychological needs of specific patient populations. Greater than 2 years of PACU/PTU experience in an acute hospital setting with a focus on ICU patients. Minimum of 2 years of adult and pediatric experience. Previous managerial experience preferred. Must pass a post offer physical. BSN degree is required.
