The Infection Surveillance Officer Is a full-time person who carries out surveillance activities, helps to develop the infection control policies, procedures and practices throughout the hospital, and monitors their application.


In addition to the required routine data, the Infection Surveillance Officer is also concerned with the investigation of clusters of infections above endemic levels and single cases or unusual nosocomial infections.


He/she assists Employee Health activities, such as evaluating source patients for exposure of healthcare workers to blood and body fluids, varicella, and other exposure follow-up and in-service education on infection control.


In conjunction with routine activities, the Infection Surveillance Officer may report any actual or suspected infection, initiate culture and sensitivity testing, and institute any appropriate isolation procedures.


He/she is directed by and reports to the Hospital Epidemiologist/Assistant Epidemiologist and is a member of the Committee of Infection Control.


To be considered for this position you must be a NYS Licensed Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner., 5 years experience, and have CIC certificate.
