  • The Certified Wound Care Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing implementing and evaluating the care of patients with fecal and urinary diversions, acute and chronic wounds, pressure ulcers, fistulas, drains and incontinence for inpatients and outpatients. The CWOCN provides consultation for physicians, nursing staff, patients/significant others, discharge planners and outside agencies. The CWOCN is responsible for coordination of nursing care and processes that advance professional nursing practice and development. In the role of  Wound Care Coordinator, the Coordinator is responsible for facilitating, supervising, directing and integrating components of professional nursing practice into the daily patient care activities of the nursing staff in collaboration with the responsible nurse manager. The  Wound Care Coordinator is also the first line manger for the Wound Care department whose focus will be in establishing a collegial working relationship with the hospital staff and serving as a resource nurse specialist and champion of skin care. The Wound Care Coordinator is committed to creating a work environment that fosters pride, teamwork and continuous learning and promoting the associate’s ability to meet patient needs. The Wound Care Coordinator must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills serving as a leader, mentor, educator and change agent, and have an understanding and acceptance of Franciscan philosophy and Standards of Excellence.

    Education: Associate Degree required; Bachelor's or Master’s preferred

    Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years required

    Licensure/Certification Required:
    1. New Jersey RN licensure
    2. BLS through the American Heart Association

    Licensure/Certification Preferred:
    1. Bachelors Degree (if not possessed upon hire, a plan for completion will be a component of the appointment process)

    2. Wound care certification (if not possessed upon hire, a plan for completion will be a component of the appointment process

    3. ACLS


    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
    1. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; must be able to speak, read and write English
    2. Ability to use initiative and judgment when making decisions

    3. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and follow through to ensure tasks are complete
    4. Demonstrated skills in sound decision making/ problem solving, teaching and interpersonal skills

    5. Ability to think critically, develop conceptual designs for clinical services and organize successful projects

    6. Proficient knowledge of PC applications

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred:
    1. Previous experience to include: 5 years in an advanced nursing management position
    2. Demonstrates effectiveness as a group leader and participant and the ability to collaborate with multiple members of the health care and administrative leadership team team
    3. Understanding of daily nursing unit operations and have the ability to conceptualize and analyze the conversion of these operations to an automated system.
    4. Demonstrates the ability to function autonomously and is an independent decision maker.needs.
    5. Certified in area of practice/administration
    6. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to manage care appropriate to the age of the patient
