Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Room. Performs under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician. Assists registered nurse in determining priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs as well as factors influencing flow throughout the triage system. Provides for the physical, psychosocial, religious/cultural needs of the patient and family. Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team as appropriate about changes in the patient's condition. Duties include: Greeting/registering patients into the Emergency Department MedHost system. Assists the RN in determining patient priority and relays to the triage nurse. Obtains and records blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, weight and height. Communicates pertinent patient information to triage nurse. Duties may include, but are not limited to, 12 lead EKG's and phlebotomy assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias, communicates to Registered Nurse or Physician.
Must be graduate of an accredited EMT-Paramedic certification program and certified as EMT-Paramedicby the NC EMS Board. Must have at least 1 year of experience in paramedic position. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required. Basic PC skills. Able to work on smoke-free campus. Able to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
