Responsibilities:
The Health Unit Coordinator / Patient Care Assistant (HUC/PCA): Provides clerical and system coordination and support for the Birth Center (Labor & Delivery and the Mother-Baby Unit); Facilitates and coordinates communication and activities with physicians, nursing staff, other departments, professional staff, and patients and families related to patient care; Manages the reception desk areas in the Birth Center units, facilitates the use of technology and coordinating downtime procedures; Performs routine service duties and assistive tasks necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients while under the supervision of the RN. Other duties as assigned.

Summary:
Minimum of 6 months experience as a HUC is preferred.

High School diploma or equivalent is required. Medical terminology knowledge required or must satisfactorily complete course within first 6 months of employment.

Completion of a formal Health Unit Coordinator training program is preferred.

State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) is required. HUC certification is preferred. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within one month of employment.

Other information:
Must have the ability to adapt to changes in a fast paced work environment. Exemplary telephone etiquette and customer service skills are required. Must possess analytical skills to gather and interpret routine data, maintain semi-complex records and organize work. Working knowledge of Windows office systems and all office equipment preferred. Interpersonal skills to gather and exchange information with patients, visitors and hospital staff in a courteous and supportive manner without exception. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
