At Rush-Copley, we believe in fostering the growth and development of all nursing professionals.  That's why we have developed a special program aimed at providing a smooth transition for the "novice nurse" who has not previously practiced in an acute care setting.

    S--Seeking Knowledge
    T--Training in Processes
    A--Always Growing
    R--Receiving Feedback and Support
    T--To Become the Best Nurse!

    START Program Overview
The START Nurse participates in a unit-based orientation supplemented with 40 hours of clinical education, dedicated preceptors with specialized training, a weekly support session with unit educator/preceptor, bi-weekly sessions with the unit manager, and a meeting with the Director overseeing the unit.  The START Nurse is then partnered with an experienced RN for a year long mentorship experience.

How To Apply: **You must have successfully passed the NCLEX to apply**
To apply to be a START RN, complete an online job application and register with a username and password.   The only way to check the status of your application is by registering.  We will collect applications year-round; however, the START program is only offered at certain times of the year (typically, summer and winter).  When new grad positions are available, we will review applications and begin the interview process at that time.  This process may take 3-6 months.

    START Portfolio
If you are chosen to begin the interview process, a member of the Human Resources department will contact you.  Directions will be given at that time to complete a New Grad Portfolio. The portfolio consists of copies of your academic credentials (degree, CPR, etc.), your RN license or NCLEX pass confirmation, original college transcript (sealed), 2 letters of recommendation from clinical instructors (sealed), and an essay on why you should be chosen for the START new grad program.
