The 6 bed Level II Nursery at San Martin provides care to the moderately ill newborn 32 weeks of gestation or greater. These infants may range from the premature infant who is now feeding and growing to the infant who requires continuous positive pressure (CPAP) therapy or nasal cannula O2 and/ or gavage feedings. All newborns can be stabilized and prepared for transport to a higher level of care as necessary.

Job Summary:
The Level II Nursery Registered Nurse cares for level I and II newborns under the direction of the Maternal Child Director. Additionally, the level II nurse may attend deliveries and cesarean sections. The registered nurse employs critical thinking to integrate objective data with knowledge gained from an assessment of the subjective experiences of patients. Registered nurses use this critical thinking process to apply the best available evidence and research data to the processes of diagnosis and treatment. Nurses continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and seek to optimize outcomes. Medical/clinical knowledge, technical and clinical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills and communication as indicated in the current Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals are essential components of nursing practice. All registered nurses practice within the scopes and standards of practice set forth by the American Nurses Association. Additional Professional Organizations may be referenced when appropriate to guide practice and standards within the work place.

This position is represented by CNA and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum - One (1) year recent RN experience in a level II or III nursery or successful completion of applicable clinical and didactic SRDH specialty training course(s) or program.
Preferred - Post partum/newborn experience in a family centered unit

Minimum - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred - Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Special Skills
Experience with infant resuscitation and stabilization, maintenance of invasive lines, and ventilators.

Required: RN = Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.

CT CPRBLS = Basic Life Support CPR.
CT NRP = Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
STABLE Program within 6 months of hire.
Preferred: Certification in Specialty Area.
