Job Description:
The NICU RN manages the nursing care of critically ill patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:
  • Develops and implements an interdisciplinary age-specific patient Plan of Care utilizing and integrating all available, relevant patient data in accordance with the Neonatal Standards of Care and Practice.
  • Interprets data to determine changes in the neonate's status and initiates appropriate nursing measures, including notification of the physician.
  • Interprets and responds to data from the cardio/respiratory monitors and pulse oximeters.
  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect to physician(s), Department Director/Supervisor and appropriate agency.
  • Completes Admission Assessment within four (4) hours of admission.
  • Documents pertinent nursing notes, including patient diagnosis, at least once per shift, change in condition, transfer and discharge.
  • Collaborates with Respiratory Therapist on neonates receiving ventilator support, nasal CPAP and oxygen hoods.
  • Supports the breast feeding family by assisting mother with feeding and assessing breast feeding techniques.
  • Demonstrates performance of all technical skills in accordance with Unit Policy and Procedure, Infection Control and Current Nursing Practice Standards.
  • Collaborates with and communicates the Plan of Care to parents/family. Updates Plan of Care based on relevant patient data/change in condition.
  • Reviews routine physician orders within two (2) hours of being written and accurately transcribes to MAR. Initiates STAT orders within one (1) hour.
  • Assists with the insertion of UAL/UVL lines as evidenced setting up of equipment and gathering
  • Attends high risk deliveries (both vaginal and C-Section) for the purpose of stabilization and resuscitation.
Promotes/creates a parent-friendly atmosphere.


Must have FL RN License
2-3 years of previous experience in Level II or Level III NICU
Must have current BLS and NRP certification
STABLE certification Strongly preferred
