JOB SUMMARY
Functions as a member of the patient care delivery team by providing patient care, including phlebotomy services, to patients in the Emergency Department.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training up to 12 months in emergency services or nursing or graduation from a medical assistant program (AAMA accredited preferred)
Completion of a phlebotomy program or equivalent
Six months in emergency services or nursing with 0-6 months in phlebotomy or may have equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and must complete WA State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification within 90 days of hire or WA State LPN Licensure with Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or WA State Medical Assistant-Certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification preferred.
Good oral and interpersonal communication skills
Medical terminology
Knowledge of specimen handling practices
Computer skills with ability to navigate multiple software sites simultaneously
Detail oriented with ability enter critical patient data quickly and accurately
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team
Strong problem solving skills
Ability to act quickly in emergency situations
Technical skills related to drawing blood samples
Technical skills related to tasks listed under responsibilities
Work requires the ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs or less


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates in Applied Science or proficiency certification as medical assistant
