Job Description:CICU Cardiac Intensive Care UnitThe Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 16 bed brand new state-of-the-art unit that is a quaternary care referral center for 4 states that cares for cardiac patients from newborns up to young adults. The CICU patients have complex congenital defects requiring surgery, cardiology and/or cardiac transplant care. Specialized care provided in the CICU includes ECMO/ECLS, Berlin Heart, continuous renal replacement therapy, nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, open chest procedures and temporary pacemakers. The CICU RN works closely with respiratory therapists, nutritionists, social workers, pharmacists and physicians to care for these critically ill children. The physical environment is made of mostly single rooms with a parent space (including a place to sleep in the room) that allows families to be present and partner in the care of their child. Exceptional staffing ratios!Relocation assistance is available for experienced CICU RNs.

As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children’s policies/procedures and guidelines of care.  Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. sing the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing,  planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team.  May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.  Assists in meeting Seattle Children’s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.

Requirements:Relocation assistance is available for experienced ICU RNs.Required: 
  • Current RN experience working in a PICU, CICU or NICU setting is preferred.However, will consider RNs with at least two (2) years current pediatric acute care hospital RN experience and or two (2) years of adult CICU/ICU RN experience.
  • Current Washington State RN License or ability to obtain.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be required upon hire or within the first 90 days after hire.
  • Nurses may be asked to work overtime occasionally
   Preferred:
  • Current CICU experience preferred
  • CCRN certification is preferred
  • BSN Preferred
