Winthrop is a New York State Regional Perinatal Center – a prestigious designation that recognizes the Hospital’s commitment to delivering the highest level of obstetrical and perinatal care.
A pioneer in obstetrical, maternity and gynecological services for more than a century, Winthrop has always had an abiding commitment to women's healthcare. It was the first hospital on Long Island to:

• Establish a separate pavilion for mothers
• Have Certified Nurse Midwives
• Utilize laparoscopic surgery (in Nassau County)
• Offer the option of vaginal birth after Cesarean section (VBAC)

Today, Winthrop continues to be a standard bearer of excellence in maternal/child care. The exceptional staff and remarkable compassion characterizing us since the late 19th century continues to underscore out maternal/child care program - one of the busiest in the New York metropolitan area, with more than 5,000 births each year.
