Job Description

Summary:

The Advance Practical Nurse in collaboration with a physician, provides for the expansion of individualized primary healthcare services by diagnosing and treating certain acute or chronic health conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.
  • Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
  • Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Two (2) years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience in related area is required. 
  • One (1) year of advanced practice experience preferred.
  • Masters degree is required upon job transfer or hire date.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) status in Texas and current limited prescriptive authority as approved by Texas Board of Nurse Examiners are required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.
  • Must have proof of documentation granted by a national certification body recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse unless APN attained status prior to 1997 and has completed an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the State of Texas is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.
