Job Description


The Director Nursing for Long Term Care leads and directs services, workflow and resources for assigned nursing area. Works closely with the Administrator through a team approach with direction and leadership of the facility. May be required to be available by phone after hours and on weekends as needed. This is a very rural facility in a small town located about 40 miles East of Austin. Towers is a 114 beds with approx 80 in use.


  • Develops departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.
  • Directs clinical activities, including patient assessment, care plan development, service level determination, patient visits, and complaint management.
  • Plans, organizes and directs all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares and monitors budget(s) and ensures that assigned nursing area operates within allocated funds. Coordinates and directs internal and externally-driven audits.
  • Administers nursing program in a nursing home in order to maintain standards of patient care. Advises management, patient care staff and administrator in matters related to nursing service.
  • Recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups.
  • Performs or delegates auditing of charts and maintains accurate department documentation including physician visits, orders and accident/incident reports.
  • Participates in licensure certification review and is responsible for meeting all requirements of any certificate related to the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Five (5) years of successful nursing experience is required, to include two (2) years nursing experience in a long term care facility and (2) years of leadership experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • BSN from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Master’s degree is preferred. 

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current license to practice nursing (RN) in the State of Texas is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Qaulity Assurance management experience
  • Matrix eMAR experience
  • 5+ yrs in long term care
  • Colloborative relationship with Director-AdministratorQuality Assurance Mgmt Exp.
  • Experience in managing operational budget
  • Hands on leadership experience
