Peacehealth, St. John Medical Center is seeking RN candidates for a full-time Clinical Nurse Educator or Clinical Nurse Specialist to support Critical Care Services.   St. John Medical Center is a 200 bed acute care, level III trauma center, community hospital located in Longview, Washington, just 40 miles north of Portland, Oregon..  This is a great opportunity to bring your clinical expertise to  our critical care and telemetry staff and nurse managers.     This position reports directly to the Director of Clinical Education and works collaboratively with the CNS and Nurse Educator team and Nurse Managers. 

Clinical Nurse Educator position requirements include: BSN, WA State RN license, five years RN experience preferrably in critical care.   To qualify for CNS role requirements: WA State RN license, and either a Masters degree in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist or a Masters in nursing with a post masters certificate as a clinical nurse specialist .  

CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR:

Clinical Nurse Educator: pay range :  $69,118 - $116,147 annual salary

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.  Acts as a resource to all caregivers regarding nursing practice and use of equipment/ supplies in area of expertise. 
2.  Assists in the design and implementation of nursing education programs, activities or new process/equipment using PeaceHealth training standards, processes, templates and course documentation forms.
3.  Participates on teams and partners on development of standardized cross-regional clinical, nursing or quality guidelines, protocols or training curriculum in area of expertise.
4.  Coordinates and provides department-specific orientation for newly hired nursing and clinical staff.
5.  Conducts learning needs assessment, facilitates practice and process changes in assigned area of expertise.
6.  Evaluates competency and identifies team or individual caregiver performance gaps.
Designs learning experiences and action plans to assist those unable to meet competency.
7.  Researches best practice in order to promote evidence-based nursing practice.
8.  Maintains professional knowledge of clinical focus area, current research, and effective educational strategies.
9.  Assesses caregiver satisfaction, patient quality indicators and evaluates education effectiveness.
10.  Assures training and competency are documented using standard tools and systems.
11.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Bachelors degree in Nursing or written plan to obtain.
• MSN or similar degree preferred
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Two years recent experience in an education setting to varied audiences or demonstrated ability to design and implement instructional modules and use a variety of educational methods preferred.
• At least five years experience a RN.
• Understanding of competency models preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Current WA State Registered Nurse licensure

• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
OTHER SKILLS:

• Proficient in the use of MS Office applications and a variety of equipment or technology tools.
• Ability to engage learners and apply adult learning techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 

CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST:

Salary range is $85,176 to $127,774

JOB SUMMARY
In the provision of indirect and direct patient care, the clinical nurse specialist integrates the overlapping roles of consultant, leader, educator, researcher and advanced practitioner.  Works in collaboration with nursing leadership, nurse educators, and other clinical nurse specialists to identify and grow caring practices that enhance the wellness of patients, families, caregivers and systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.  Assists in the collaborative development and implementation of a variety of programs including but not limited to competency based orientation, programs of care for specific patient populations, ongoing education/training and competency assessment.
2.  Serves as a consult to other nurses and healthcare professionals in assessing the needs of and planning care for patients and families.
3.  Serves as a role model in the provision of patient care through professional behaviors and the application of advanced clinical skills.
4.  Collaborates with the unit managers and director to establish and evaluate the standards of nursing practice (at the nurse, unit and organizational level), communicates these standards to the nursing personnel on the units, changes standards as necessary, follows up on discrepancies with the manager and individual caregiver as necessary.
5.  Serves as a leader in the provision of evidence-based care through the interpretation and dissemination of research findings and quality data to the staff.
6.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:

• Master’s degree in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a graduate degree (masters or doctorate) with a post-masters certificate as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from an accredited school of nursing
 

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Minimum of five years of experience as an RN required.
• Minimum of three years progressive experience in applicable clinical area.
• Previous experience as a CNS preferred.
 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice required.
• Current CNS licensure if practicing in Oregon
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.

• Board Certification as a CNS in applicable patient population preferred.
