JOB SUMMARY

Performs duties that provide for the safety of hospital and clinic patients, staff and visitors.  Assures that policies and procedures are followed to promote a safe environment of care.

              

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Works closely with Network Leadership to develop safety programs to minimize accidents and injuries. Collaborates with Leadership to re-engineer patient handling policies and practices to transition to a safe patient handling and low lift environment, including monitoring/evaluating program effectiveness. Conduct / support formal and informal safety training programs to train staff to work injury free.

2.Conducts / participates in accident/incident investigations and recommends mitigation activities.  Maintains Hazard Communication Plan.

3.Monitors work related injury and Workers Compensation data to analyze and make recommendations for preventative measures.

4.Attends applicable Network Safety Committees and supports committees as needed. Coordinates departmental Safety Representative training. 

5.Assembles Environment of Care statistical data in support of annual management plans.   Generates appropriate reports, trends analysis, and other statistical analyses as required. Reports data through Safety Committees and Quality Management Committee.

6.Participates in safety inspections. Schedules and documents environmental monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance. Maintains compliance with Hazard Communication Plan.

 7.Coordinates and schedules vendor support when necessary including but not limited to Industrial Hygienist, audiometric testing etc. Conducts / participates in indoor air quality and water intrusion investigations and recommends mitigation activities.

8.Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field; or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training and experience required.
Clinical practice background strongly preferred, including but not limited to RN, PT, or OT.

Experience/training:

Minimum of five years’ experience with OSHA regulatory compliance activities preferred.
Minimum of five years’ experience in the healthcare or safety related field required.

License/certification:

Certified Health Care Safety Professional preferred.
Valid State Driver’s License required.

Other skills:

Must use keyboard with sufficient dexterity for speed required by job.  
Must communicate effectively with peers, physicians, clinical and administrative staff.   
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must possess ability to work with departments as a team player. 
Must be a creative thinker. 
Strong organization, analysis, and communication skills (both written & verbal) are required. 
Must be able to manage multiple priorities in an effective manner.   
Must adapt effectively to changing work demands and priorities.
