Job Description: 

ENTEROSTOMAL THERAPY NURSE ASSISTANT 

The Enterostomal Therapy nurse assistant is responsible for managing a caseload of inpatients and outpatients with ostomy and/or skin/wound management needs on referral from MDs, nurses or other health team members, under the guidance of a certified Enterostomal Therapy nurse. The Enterostomal Therapy nurse assistant assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of these patients relative to their ostomy/skin needs. The ET nurse assistant provides expert consultation to team members, coordination of services and education for patients, families and the health team, while being supervised by a certified ET nurse.  

 
Job Qualifications: 

Education:

As required by licensure.

BSN preferred.

 

Experience:

Has practiced as an RN for a minimum of 2 years.

Acute care setting preferred.

 

Licensure:

Current applicable state RN license required.

WOCN Association accreditation in Enterostomal Therapy, or pursuit of accreditation in Enterostomal Therapy, preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Able to cope with physical and emotional demands of a dynamic environment.

Able to hear, speak, write and understand English.

Able to bend, lift, ambulate, manipulate and see small objects. Utilize good body mechanics.

Strong written and verbal and communication skills.

Able to manage multiple work demands and complex patient caseload.

Familiarity with community resources preferred.

Strong teamwork/collaboration and teaching skills.

Basic familiarity with computers preferred.
