Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Obstetric Technician provides age appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner. The OB Tech assists patients with tasks related to the activities of daily living. The OB Tech assists the obstetrician, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and the registered nurse in the care of patients in the Birthing Rooms and/or the C-Section surgical suites. The OB Tech reports to the Supervisor of the Birthing Center and performs other duties as assigned.
Scrub technician experience and/or training is required.
One year clinical experience in acute care setting is preferred. Previous experience in sterile technique and assisting MD in the delivery room is preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of a surgical technician, licensed practice nursing, or nursing assistant training program is required.
State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification, or completion of surgical technician training program is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
Successful completion of a training program in OR/OB procedures and sterile techniques is required.
Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
