The Wound Ostomy Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) that participates within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, individualized nursing care, based upon knowledge and experience, the nursing process and leadership skills. The Wound Ostomy Nurse incorporates the carative factors of human care and performs established procedures in accordance with the organizations and the nursing divisions policies, procedures, and standards of care. The Wound and Ostomy Nurse integrates evidence-based knowledge into the care of patients with wound, ostomy, and continence issues; establishes and maintains standards of practice according to the WOCN and Presence Health guidelines. As a member of the leadership team functions as a representative on committees and task forces. The specialist provides direct patient care, consults with members of the interdisciplinary patient care team, educates, facilitates and is a resource for the management of wound and ostomy issues. This position requires a Bachelor's degree. Current Illinois Registered Nurse license required. Three years of Medical Surgical Nursing required. Completion of accredited wound and/or ostomy education program required.
