Job Description

Summary:

The Dir-Nursing B leads and directs services, workflow and resources for assigned nursing area.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.
  • Directs clinical activities, including patient assessment, care plan development, service level determination, patient visits, and complaint management.
  • Plans, organizes and directs all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares and monitors budget(s) and ensures that assigned nursing area operates within allocated funds. Coordinates and directs internal and externally-driven audits.
  • Manages resources to support quality patient care, service and patient safety.  Supports measurement of nursing intensity/patient acuity to allocate resources appropriately.  
  • Supports the professional practice model.  Ensures compliance with standards of practice. Supports and advances shared governance structure.  Collaborates effectively with organizational stakeholders.  Identifies technologies to enhance outcomes.  Drives departmental technology implementation and use.
  • Collaborates on development of nursing and operating strategic plans aligning with all overarching strategic plans.  Supports horizontal integration of the practice of nursing in alignment with shared governance model, nursing winning strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Ensures use of evidenced based practice and research to guide clinical and managerial decision-making.  Supports organizational research and evidence-based practice (EBP)  initiatives at the unit, site and specialty levels.  Ensures development of enterprise-aligned, department specific programs to measure, analyze, and improve nursing care quality.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Master's Level Degree, And, Seven (7) years of successful nursing experience is required, to include five (5) years of leadership experience, with a minimum of three (3) years of that leadership experience in departmental management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master's degree required.
  • Either Bachelor's or Master's degree must be in Nursing.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Nurse Executive-Board Certified or Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified are preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the state of Texas is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.
