The Nurse Scientist facilitates nursing research and evidenced based practice at Froedtert Hospital by teaching, supporting, coaching, mentoring and advancing the competencies of registered nurses in all components of the research process and evidenced based practice. The Nurse Scientist supports, assists and motivates staff to identify opportunities for research, assists in preparing proposals, supports navigating Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and assists staff in conducting research, disseminating and utilizing research. The Nurse Scientist identifies opportunities for research funding and facilitates and supports activities that advance nursing research and evidence based practice. The position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. The position description incorporates standards of practice and standards of performance from the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice (2010). Other duties as assigned.
Two years of experience in designing, implementing and conducting clinical nursing research and at least one year of nursing practice experience in hospital nursing is required. Experience working with statisticians in the analysis of study findings is required. Experience in publishing research and presenting research is required. Current faculty or adjunct faculty at an academic institution is preferred.
PhD in Nursing (preferred) or a related discipline or Doctorate of Nursing Practice is required.
Completion and maintenance of Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training is required.
Knowledge of federal regulations to protect human subjects. Knowledge of research ethics . Knowledge and skill in grant writing. Knowledge of internal review board functions and processes. Ability to apply and translate regulations and ethics into the conduction of research. Skilled in oral and written communication. Ability to facilitate, create and develop highly effective teams.
Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
