Summary of Duties
The Infection Prevention Nurse is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for directing the multiple facets of the Infection Prevention Program for the organization including coordination, management, consultation, surveillance, liaison, in-service education, and review of Medical Records as necessary. The Infection Prevention Nurse acts as the Infection Prevention Officer and is responsible to “drive” the Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program as it relates to Infection Prevention. The Infection Prevention Nurse assures that the Continuum of Care is a high quality from admit to discharge and post-hospital course by reducing infection risks to patients and personnel through surveillance, assisting in teaching pertinent Infection Prevention and Isolation policies and procedures at all employee levels, and ascertaining the needs for monitoring programs in any given area in an effort to identify and minimize to the lowest level infection hazards in the environment. The Infection Prevention Nurse extends these services and knowledge beyond the walls of the institution by serving as nursing consultant in the area of Infection Prevention for other hospitals.

Qualifications & Requirements
A minimum of 3 years acute care hospital experience, with 2 years infection prevention experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written)
Certification as an Infection Control Practitioner preferred
Current California Nursing License
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize the following equipment / software: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Education preparation in the field of Epidemiology
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor degree in nursing or related field preferred
Knowledge of basic skills of leadership, management, teaching, communication and patient care in general nursing
Must possess Current American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Certification
Works well with others in a team-orientated environment, including support of other co-workers’ job duties in a manner that further advances the goals and objectives of the whole organization
